One of the most popular and remembered emblems in the world is the Chevrolet bowtie. This was well known to be introduced by William C. Durant, one of the co founders of the company. It is popularly used on cars and chevy truck. Nevertheless, how it became synonymous with the iconic brand is still a mystery!
The Durant’s version of the logo and its existence came from an inspiration of a Parisian hotel’s wallpaper design and Durant himself told this. This story was told in the official 1961 publication when celebrating the company’s 50th anniversary. When Durant was a world traveler, he symbolized the pattern into infinity and even tore a bit of the wallpaper, to show to his friends and discuss about the probability of using it as a nameplate. However, there are different stories, some told by the Durant’s family about the origin of the design.
In a book published by one of his daughters, she explains how her father Durant, used to make nameplate designs on the dinner table’s papers. Therefore, it could be in between the fried chicken and soup that the design was sketched, which is popularly used even to this day.
Although, after a few decades, another magazine from the company, exclaimed how Durant spotted the now famous symbol in a newspaper, while staying in a hotel room and came up with an idea that it will be a fine emblem for the company. Another well known explanation attributes straightly to the Swiss flag’s cross! This is based greatly, as the legendary Louis Chevrolet; its co founder was born in Switzerland to French parents. Whatever, its origin is and no matter how many colors and detail changes, it has undergone, the essential shape remains unchanged and is used as a gold bowtie for all cars and trucks for sale.
